Prime Rib Roast

  • 1 (3.4 kg) prime rib roast
  • 15 cloves garlic, minced or grated
  • 3 tbps olive oil
  • 3 tps salt
  • 3 tps ground black pepper
  • 3 tps dried thyme
  • 3 tps garlic powder

  1. Place the roast with the fatty side up in a roasting pan or plate.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together the garlic, olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic powder and thyme.
  3. Spread the mixture over the fatty layer of the roast and the sides and let the roast sit out until it is at room temperature, about an 1 hour.
  4. Preheat the oven to 500 degrees F (260 degrees C). Bake the roast for 20 minutes in the preheated oven, then reduce the temperature to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C), and continue roasting for an additional 2 hours or until the internal temperature is at 130-135 degrees F (57 degrees C) for medium rare.
  5. Allow the roast to rest for 10 or 15 minutes before carving so the meat can retain its juices.
  6. Serve with a side of vegetables such as asparagus and/or mashed potatoes as well with some gravy. Enjoy!



This is a very simple Prime Rib Roast recipe that anyone can do and is great for any dinner or parties. You’re cook time will vary depending on the size of the roast, this one was about 7.5 lbs or 3.4 kg however the key is always use a meat thermometer to easily know when it’s done.
