[recipe servings=”12″ time=”30mins” difficulty=”Easy” description=”I wanted to try making cookies so as one of the first attempt i decided to make Sugar Cookies with Royal Icing. It’s a fairly simple recipe so it’s friendly for any type of bakers. The colorful Royal Icing gives it a nice touch and fun to make and decorate. Overall the only difficulty is the amount of time it took to cook the cookies as for me I had to readjust the time for the cookies till it started to brown at the edges.”]
[recipe-ingredients]
- 1 cup butter
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 tbsp vanilla
- 3 cups flour
- 3 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- **Royal Icing**
- 1/3 cup pasteurized egg whites
- 1/2 tsp cream of tartar
- 3 cups sifted icing sugar
[/recipe-ingredients] [recipe-directions]
- Mix flour, baking powder and salt in a bowl & set aside.
- In a separate bowl, combine butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla. Beat until mixed well.
- Add the flour mixture in slowly & mix well.
- Chill for at least an hour to stiffen the dough. Roll the dough out with a rolling pin & cut shapes with cookie cutters OR form dough balls and flatten into thick circles with your hands.
- Preheat oven to 400F.
- Bake 10-15 mins or until just the edges of cookies start to turn a very, very light golden brown. Don’t over-bake. For an extra-doughy consistency, remove the cookies before the edges start to brown. Set aside, and let it cool completely.
- Beat egg whites with cream of tartar until foamy. Gradually beat in icing sugar until stiff, about 4 minutes.
- Add in drops of food coloring to your liking. Cover with damp cloth to prevent drying out.
- Apply icing on cookies and let it sit until icing hardens. Enjoy!
